Montevideo, Uruguay 2025

Uruguay is a tiny county wedged between Argentina and Brazil, but a standout – particularly when it comes to South America. It is stable politically, economically, has strong education and is safe.

They invented tango here. Also, for you trivia experts, they have the world’s longest national anthem.

Over half the population live in Montevideo, its capital. Its beaches are amazing, even though it is located on a river, not the ocean.

We docked next to a particularly ugly ship that just didn’t look right because old cruise ships did not have balconies. Well, it turns out that this ship only carried live cattle. That also explained the stench.

We visited their Holocaust Memorial. We have seen many around the world, but none with the symbolic design this one has.

Since we overnighted here, we ate dinner out at one of their amazing steakhouses for which they are famous. The portions were ridiculous.
