Port Stanley, Falkland Islands 2025

Today we visited the quaint capital of the Falkland Islands, Port Stanley. The population is only about 4500. Everybody knows everybody’s business here.

After a ½ hour tender ride (a small boat that takes passengers from an anchored ship to shore) and a short van ride, we arrived at the stunning Bluff Cove.

There we were treated to an abundance of wildlife including birds, 2 species of penguins, black cows with a big white stripe and an array of beautiful birds soaring though the sky.

We got up and personal with Gentoo Penguins (3000 of them live there) and King Penguins. You can easily tell the difference because the King Penguins are colorful and huge.

It is so windy there that wind turbines provide 65% of their electrical power.
Even though it was 16 degrees with winds 25-35mph, I still enjoyed staying outside watching the penguins happily waddling and hopping along together.
