Komodo Island, Indonesia; Cruise Day 69

If you like reptiles, this is the place for you. Komodo Island is the famous home of the Komodo Dragon, the world’s largest lizard. They average about 10 feet in length, and weigh in at about 150 pounds.

At least a third of the world’s 5,000 dragon population live on Komodo Island, along with about an equal number of humans. Much of the people here are descended from criminals, sent here in exile.

Komodo dragons are very deadly, but fortunately for the tourists, they have extremely low metabolism and are not hungry often.

They have unbelievable fresh water pearls here, for unbelievable prices. I have been kicking myself since last time (two years ago) for not buying any. Check out the beautiful pearls I bought Allyn for a TOTAL of $20. That’s right; no typo here.

I am already kicking myself for not buying more.

We just finished dinner with a couple who spent 25 years in Panama. They are so interesting and so enlightening. We are so fortunate to be able interact with people like them.
