Big Bend National Park, TX (2021)
Big Bend is one the largest, most remote, and one of the least visited national parks in the contiguous United States. It is not very well known. It is probably as desolate a place as I have ever been to, although so cool. Being off season, it was especially quiet.
We started out taking the incredible 30 mile Ross Maxwell Scenic drive.
The right side of the gulch is the United States and the left side is Mexico. The Rio Grande River flows through it.
They have so many hikes here. I chose the one to Balanced Roc, although it was almost an hour’s drive including six miles of dirt and rock road. It was a tough hike for me as the last quarter mile was all rock at a very steep incline. It was worth it.
As we walked back down we spotted mountain goats far in the distance way up the rocks.

December 8, 2021 at 10:30 amThat’s so awesome! That’s what a plan to do when I retired. We are going to get an RV and travel throughout the country. I did that when I was a kid with my parents and my siblings. Can’t wait to do it again. Enjoy it!!
