Las Palmas, Grand Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain 2024

Geographically, Canary Islands are part of Africa although politically they are 100% Spain.

There is some controversy over the why they are named Canary Islands, but one thing is for certain; they are not named after the bird.

Las Palmas, the joint capital and largest city, pop. 400,000,  in the Canary Islands, is part of Spain. The cruise terminal is shared with a large working cargo port.

Marinas tend to be quite picturesque – even when you are just zipping by on a hop on, hop off bus.

The constant springtime weather here is considered one of the best climates in the world.

Just blocks away is Las Canteras beach, considered one of the best urban beaches in the world.

Some of the building look like they are from Barcelona. Others are quite plain, but snazzied up.

We loved the terraced pastel-colored homes.

The parks are lovely.

Old Town was our favorite. If we had more time here, then we would have gone to dinner there.
