Funchal, Madeira, Portugal 2024
Until this trip I thought madeira was a Portuguese dessert wine. It is indeed. It turns out Madeira is an (Portuguese) island that lies off the northwest coast of Africa, north of The Canary Islands.
Funchal is its largest city (106,000) and capital.

The city is ultra clean and immaculate. The black and white mosaic pattern pavers around town give it a lovely look.

Every door of every shop (over 200) on Rua de Santa Maria in Old Town is painted.

This is the view from our cabin.

I tried taking a selfie in front of a Madeira sign. I better go back to studying selfie photography.

Many restaurants display their fresh fish in their windows.

Allyn and a few buddies took a foodie tour. I think they sampled Portuguese delights in seven different restaurants.
