Honolulu, HI 2023

It was exciting flying into Honolulu today for about my 50th visit.

The plane took its usual approach offering a nice view of Pearl Harbor. I couldn’t help but think there is more hate these days than any time in the last 82 years since that terrible day.

Our first night here allowed us to help celebrate our buddy Joey’s birthday. In case you don’t recognize the name, the Hawaii Spectrum wrote “Legendary championship surfer Joey Cabell helped revolutionize the sport in the 1960s in Hawaii while becoming the ultimate renaissance man as a world-class sailor, skier and entrepreneur in launching the famous Chart House restaurant brand.”

Hawaiians really know how to have a good time.

Dinner was at the private Outrigger Canoe Club, about a mile and a half down the road from Waikiki. Looking back up the beach a wave of nostalgia hit me. I have been coming to Honolulu regularly for 65 years and not one of the high-rises that we see was built back then.

As usual, all activity shifted to watching the usual fabulous sunset.

I even saw the famous green flash for the first time.

It’s great to be back.
