Detroit People are Different

I went to Detroit for one-day business meeting yesterday, I’m already flying back so have no sightseeing report. I stayed at the nice Townsend Hotel in Birmingham, which gets me to today’s point.

I was reminded that I still have never met a person who admits that they are from Detroit. They say that they are from places called Grosse Point, Ferndale, Rochester, Bloomfield and other fancy suburbs. I guess they are embarrassed.

If you live an hour out of Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, L.A, or San Francisco you don’t tell new people from far away what little community you live in. You mention the big city whose name people recognize.

Get over it. I can probably tell by looking at you that you don’t live in the ghetto.
