Cadiz, Spain 2025
Cadiz is the oldest western European city still standing. The age of the city combined with its vibrance and setting adds to its collective beauty. We took a delightful private walking tour (10,000 steps).

The Town hall met us as we disembarked.

Interesting old, narrow streets are all over the city.

Goblin Street is the narrowest street in town. Our guide told us a couple of legends (tragic love affairs) about it.

The lively central market is almost 200 years old.

The entrance to the old city stems from the 16th century.

These are Roman remains from Julius Caesar’s time.

A fun Cadiz mailbox.

In 1755 on All Saints Day there was a major tsunami where the water reached 2.5 meters (over 8 feet) above the street which is well above sea level.
At this church the priest took a banner of Our Lady out in the street where the wall of water was advancing. The water advanced to the banner and miraculously stopped and returned to the sea.
Was it was a miracle, or just time for the water to retreat?

Part of the 2002 film ‘Die Another Day” was filmed here.

This is serious low tide.

Just the walk long the waterfront was quite a sight.

As was walking through the well-manicured parks.

This guy, Carlos Emundo de Ory was a famous poet.

This monument was erected in 1912 to honor the hundredth anniversary of the first constitution of Spain, March 19, 1812, that established a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system.

Lots of interesting churches are in this part of the world.
