What a great day!

Here in Tangier we are at the exact dividing line between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

The Caves of Hercules was a fun stop. The sea opening is known as The Map of Africa because it is the shape of Africa when looked at from the sea.

The Tangier American Legation is a building in the old city of Tangier. It formerly housed the United States diplomatic mission to Morocco. It was the first American public property abroad and is the only U.S. Historical Landmark in a foreign country.

It was established on May 17, 1821. On December 20, 1777, Morocco was the very first nation to recognize the U.S. Independence.

Jews have historically been welcomed in Morocco. They came originally after the destruction of the First Temple, then after Spain kicked them out, and again to escape the Nazis. However, times have changed, and the Jewish population is less than 1% of what it was in the 1950s.

The Moshe Nahon Sephardic Synagogue is on a tiny street that juts out from the Rue Sinagogue. It was built in the 19th century, closed for most of the 20th century and restored in 1994. It has been repurposed to be a museum. It is quite unique looking.

The Tangier Medina was fun to walk through.
