Norfolk Island, Australia 2026

We had not visited Norfolk Island before. All of us were impressed with its beauty and cleanliness.

We learned much about its history while visiting the large cemetery.

Captain James Cook discovered and named the island in 1774.

Then two convict settlements were established – 1788 and 1825. The second one was extremely harsh and housed the worst convicts.

If you didn’t know, the fabulous story behind Mutiny on the Bounty is real. The mutineers landed on Pitcairn Island in 1789. Please click the blog link: https://jetsetway.com/pitcairn-island-cruise-day-43/

In 1856, following the closure of the second convict settlement, the people of Pitcairn Island, a community of descendants of mutineers from the HMS Bounty and their Tahitian brides, were relocated to Norfolk Island.
