Monemvasia, Greece 2025

Monemvasia, the “Gibraltar of the East”, was founded by the Byzantines in the sixth century. The steep sheer rock made for excellant protection.

The entrance to the upper town is through a fortified gate about a mile from the bottom.

There are no vehicles inside here; just narrow cobblestone streets that wind around old monasteries converted into tiny inns, cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops along the one main road.

Historically they had no water supply except for the rain that was captured by their roof tiles.

Its always fun to visit a unique lovely place like none we have been to before.

Before returning to the ship we visited the Liotrivi Estate to learn about ultra-high quality olive oil production.
