Guayaquil, Ecuador 2025

Guayaquil is Ecuador’s largest city, economic capital and main port. It is also the gateway to the Galapagos Islands which I highly recommend if you ever are in this part of the world.

The Metropolitan Cathedral of Guayaquil was built to replace its original cathedral that was destroyed in a fire.

Malecon 2000 is the 1.5-mile boardwalk in the center of the city overlooking the Guayas River.

Many of the city’s most important monuments are found on the boardwalk such as the Hemicicle De La Rotonda Monument commemorating the 1822 meeting between liberators Simón Bolívar and José de San Martín. Together they helped liberate Spanish South America from Spain.

The Juan Pueblo Sculpture is found here.

Even The Thinker is here.

Then it was off to old town.

Here Allyn (not to be confused with Barry) walked the 499 stairs to the top.

And finally, we were afforded quite an interesting and lovely sunset.
