Bellagio, Lake Como, Italy
Lake Maggiore was nice, but Lake Como is the gold standard of Italy’s lake district. It is peaceful and elegant, whether one looks at the natural beauty, or the old villas.
We are staying in Bellagio, a beautiful quaint Italian city on a peninsula roughly in the center of the lake (which then divides it into two).
It is great just to roam around or sit in the sun. I did the roaming around -- to the outdoor pizza restaurant. Allyn hung around after for shopping.
We stayed in the 5 star deluxe hotel Villa Serbelloni, the only 5 star in town. They have pictures of such luminaries as FDR and JFK who stayed here previously. They must have had a different room. I think the carpet is the same however.
About 45 minutes away, down the lake, is what is considered one of the world’s best hotels, Villa d'Este. We were not happy that our tour did not house us there.
Just as Paris has its Eiffel Tower, this region is known for its Villa Carlotta located across the lake. We took a boat ride, toured the villa, and returned for an afternoon in Bellagio.
