Everglades City, FL (2022)

Everglades City was our final stop on our road trip prior to heading to Miami for our 2022 Grand Voyage.

Everglades Isle was another homerun RV park selection. I mean we had a waterfront view lot!

We absolutely loved our two-hour private time with Down South Airboat Tours. They have different tours and their recommendations change depending on the time of year and weather. Stick with their recommendation.

The “river of grass” is caused by Lake Okeechobee overflowing, and releasing water into a very slow moving, shallow river dominated by sawgrass marsh. It seems to just go on and on.

Everybody wants to see alligators. We were allowed to park and walk over to see them.

Contrary to what I have been taught, two of the world’s 23 species of crocodiles are native to America, making South Florida the only place in the world where both crocs and gators coexist. They are sighted only rarely.

This area, too, is part of that same slow-moving river (60 miles wide by 100 miles long flowing from N to S).

The Everglades provides one third of the Florida drinking water.

So, on the final night of our road trip, we opted for an entire South Florida dinner including gator bites, frog legs, she crab soup, grouper, and a local IPA. Yum.
