Maputo, Mozambique 2019

Here we are today in Maputo, the capital city of Mozambique. Here is yet another city whose name until recently was unknown to me, yet it has 2.7MM people in its metropolitan area. I mean we are in Africa. This is the real deal.
The Central Railway Station is over 100 years old and generally recognized as one of the prettiest in the world and the most beautiful in Africa.
It was worth the tour just to watch the hubbub of local activity here.
The Central Market is another place that is always fun to visit to see how the locals live. It, too, was a delight.
If you are interested in elephant fetuses you absolutely must run, not walk, to the  Maputo Museum of Natural History. They have real preserved fetuses to view from 3 weeks 22 months.
Imagine this. in 1892 the Iron House was built to be the  to be the residence of the Governor General of Mozambique. It was designed by the famous Gustave Eiffel, (Eiffel Tower and Statue of Liberty fame).  Well it seems nobody told him it was hot here. It was impossible to use as a dwelling. It makes for a good tour stop though.

Our final stop was at the obligatory crafts market. It was surprisingly lovely.
