Reunion Island
We had several activity options on the French Island of Reunion. We chose to go to the cute beach area of St. Gilles les Bains.
Sometimes we Americans are too egocentric. They did not speak English and they did not take dollars. That bothered some of the passengers. Why should they? They live in a French island way down in the Indian Ocean.
Maybe the best part of Reunion was learning some of its local trivia.
Trivia 1 – As part of France and in the Indian Ocean, Reunion was the first region in the world to use the Euro as legal tender.
Trivia 2 – An area of Reunion has the world record for the most rainfall in a 24 hour period. (Cilaos – 73.62 inches between March 15 and 16, 1952).
