Joe Barton (R-TX) Introduces Bill to Regulate Internet Poker
On Friday, June 26, 2011, Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) introduced a bipartisan bill to regulate Internet poker.
Saturday, he visited the World Series of Poker to speak to a house full of fans, including me. He told me he is one of our magazine subscribers.
It has been five years now since Congress snuck into the Safe Port Act a terrible, totally unrelated bill, which made it illegal for banks to process most payment methods for online poker (even though online poker is legal in almost all jurisdictions).
Rep. Barton and his fellow sponsors believe poker playing is an issue of personal freedom, and the government shouldn’t stop people from playing a game of skill.
For years, Card Player Media and I have been strong supporters of regulating and taxing online poker.
Certainly at the end of the day, online poker in the US will be clearly legal. I just hope that day is during the next year or so.
